Eclips
Naming & Publishing Conventions
Please
use the following conventions when preparing a file to be published to eclips.
Naming Convention:
Consists
of 3 parts….owner.content-desciptor.date…Separated by dashes & dots. Using the dash as the separator means that
the information is different but connected in some way. The dot, as in writing, means “The End”, with
no more information in this section. The
dash is used because it is a single keystroke and there’s info in the file
names that needs to be separated but still stay together.
1. Owner…. (last
name, first initial only) This is the name that appears at the top of the
work order….most often but not always, this part of the file name will become
the folder where the file lives on the server.
This way, if the file becomes astray, we can start to tell where it’s
supposed to be.
2. Content….one or two word description of
what’s contained in the file.
3.
Date… (6 digits,
no more, no less, no separators…112006) this is the date the event took place…NOT
the date the file was made.
The
file name might look something like this when you're done:
burrelld.caraoke-newyears.123108
Sets of files:
If
there is more than one finished file associated with a production, append which
file it is and how many are in the set…do this right after the date. For example, if there are 2 finished files,
the file names would become:
burrelld-caraoke-newyears.123108.1of2
burrelld-caraoke-newyears.123108.2of2
Publishing:
All
encoded files need to be transferred to the following drive:
Make
a folder in the publish2eclips folder using the same name as the owner or the
first section of the filename.
Notification of Transfer:
Notification
must come to me in the form of an e.mail so that I have hard copy evidence.
Notification needs to include the file
owner and the Wolf Net Work Order
Number so I can make my entries and close. Once you have notified me that
the files have been transferred to the “publish2eclips” folder, your job is
done. At this point I take full
responsibility for publishing the file…activating the link…as well as notifying
the Owner their files are ready to present.
Backup:
This
method insures that we have at least 3 working copies of the final version of
the file. You send me a copy. I make a copy and put it up on the server. Your copy, my copy and the server copy… at
this point we all can relax! db
